Happy Wednesday,

This morning I'm looking at a set of new flyers spread across my desk, and I'll admit I've spent a long time working on them. They're introductory pieces for Mae'd, a set of marketing materials I've been making to hand out in person at local businesses. Finally getting them onto cardstock and watching them come to life reminded me how much I love the tactile and creative side of all this.

I'm a paper person, through and through. I still write almost everything by hand first, the copy, the late-night ideas, the daily to-do lists. Writing something by hand makes the idea feel like it's being created and formed as I go.

Small businesses are personal. They have a point of view, and they make you feel something. As Mae'd is also a small business, making something that felt real and personal was the priority. Walking into a small business with nothing but a business card never felt like enough. I wanted to walk in with something informative and personal.

Introducing yourself in person feels like a bit of a lost art lately. It's my favorite way to hear about others and what they do, and to share what Mae'd does as well. There's something about handing over a piece of Mae'd someone can actually hold and reference, then letting the conversation wander wherever it might.

There's a reason people are drifting back to vinyl, hardcopy books, and handwritten agendas. In a world that lives on a screen, we're all craving things we can actually hold, and people we can actually sit across from. As a service business, there's no product to hand over, so these touches are how I make the personal part of Mae'd real.

A majority of marketing lives online now, and social media is often the first place people go to find you. But the brands that people remember, and come back to, are the ones that made them feel something or met them right where they were. I want to connect with people in a personal way, not over the phone, an email, or hoping they stumble across my website.

If you know someone who needs a refresh, or is dreaming up something new, feel free to send them my way. The best introductions still happen the old-fashioned way!

That's the latest from Mae'd.
